| Story in the Glass This
window depicts Saint Patrick. Born somewhere in Britain, Patrick was carried off to
slavery in Ireland, eventually escaping. He later studied for the priesthood and was
ordained around a priest 417, and a bishop in 432. He was sent to Ireland and, after
years of intense labor, he overcame the opposition of the local chiefs and Druids and
converted the island to Christianity. He established a vibrant monastic system and
close ties with Rome; and his "Confessio" is one of the great masterpieces of
early Christianity. He is deeply venerated by the Irish people, wherever they have
gone, especially in Boston, where he is honored as our patron saint. His feast day
is March 17. |

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who
brings glad tidings, announcing peace, bearing good news, and announcing salvation.
