Story in the Glass

This window depicts St. John the Baptist.  John is venerated as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the herald of Jesus.  John called large crowds to repentance and baptism; he pointed out Jesus as the Messiah, and he inspired many of his disciples to follow Jesus.  John was beheaded by Herod Antipas because John denounced his incestuous marriage. The feast day of birth of John the Baptist is June 24.

From his mother's womb, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:15

Story of the Glass

This window was created in 1880, probably manufactured by a German studio.  It was a gift of Rev J. J. Gray.  Rev Gray was pastor of St. James parish in Salem.

The window is located in the north nave.
