United States Air Force Biography

Chaplain, Colonel Richard M. Erikson Chaplain, Colonel Richard M. Erikson is Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Command Chaplain, Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). He serves as advisor on religious, ethical concerns, and quality of life issues pertaining to Air Force military and Department of Defense civilians and their family members. He is the liaison to HQ ARPC/HC. He assists the Command Chaplain in establishing priorities, reporting requirements, and implementing the Air Force Chief of Chaplains policies, Air Force Instructions, strategic plan on ministry, and professional programs. He staffs chaplain resource requirements to insure maximum chaplain coverage of AFSOC’s peacetime and wartime requirements to optimize AFSOC mission accomplishment. In his civilian position, Fr. Erikson serves as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Boston. In this capacity, he is the primary administrator of an Archdiocese comprised of 144 communities and nearly two million Catholics. He is author of Late Have I Loved Thee: Stories of Religious Conversion and Commitment in Later Life (Paulist Press, 1995; St. Paul’s Press, 1998). He is an avid lover of music and has compiled, produced and published liner notes in a dozen compact discs. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on 8 June 1985 for the Archdiocese of Boston. He deployed to Balad, Iraq in July-Sept of 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
