April 14, 2008 - Archdiocese Statement on the Eve of the Holy Father's Arrival in the U.S.

We here in the Archdiocese of Boston, like Catholics throughout the United States are pleased and excited by this first apostolic visit by the Holy Father to our nation. The Holy Father, together with the bishops in the United States, has chosen as his theme for the trip a Pilgrimage of Hope.

We are not surprised that many people have many hopes that they want to share with the Holy Father. We look forward with eager anticipation to hearing his message of faith, hope, and love that he will share with us during his various pastoral encounters this week. We see this as a time for Catholics in our Archdiocese and throughout the country to come together to listen to and to pray for and support the Holy Father. We seek to go forward with him on this journey of hope. As one local bishop is fond of saying “we can do more things better, together, than we can do apart.

So let us come together with the Holy Father during his visit, take his message of hope to heart and go forward together as Catholics who can share the great gifts that are ours as daughters and sons of God and sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ.
