August 22 , 2007 - Special Collection To Aid Relief Efforts In PeruBrighton, MA -- Cardinal Seán P. O'Malley is asking parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston to hold a special collection this coming weekend to aid relief efforts in Peru following the recent earthquake in that country. In announcing the special collection Cardinal Seán said in his weekly blog posting on August 17th, "Boston has a long standing tradition of great generosity with the victims of natural disasters, and Peru is very close to our hearts through the works of so many Boston priests who through the years have ministered there serving the poorest among the poor in Peru." Very Reverend Richard M. Erikson, Ph.D., V.G., Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese in a letter to pastors said, "In response to Pope Benedict XVI's call for 'institutions and people of good will to offer the needed aid to victims out of charity and a spirit of Christian solidarity,' Cardinal Seán has given permission for a special collection for relief efforts." Fr. Erikson added, "Your compassionate concern for the universal Church brings Christ's light to people and places covered by a pall of darkness. Please help spread the radiant light of love through your generous support of this Collection." Funds raised this weekend will be sent to Catholic Relief Services to aid relief efforts in Peru. |
