July 25, 2007 - Announcement of Presbyteral Convocation on Friday September 14, 2007

My brother priests, This morning, Cardinal Sean announced a Presbyteral Convocation will take place on Friday September 14, 2007, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. The convocation is a companion/complementary day to the previously announced gathering of priests on November 20, and has been recommended and shaped by members of the presbyterate whose present ministry involves care for priests.

You will be receiving full information about both days, but I wanted to let you know right away about September 14th so you can reserve the afternoon and evening on your calendars. The purpose of the day is, primarily, to gather as a presbyterate as we consider our ministry and lives together and to reflect on our experience as a presbyterate over the past few years and our hopes for the future. These convocations are part of a renewed effort to care for our clergy.

In the spirit of mutual support and our shared identity in Christ Jesus, the High Priest, I would be grateful if you would please plan to be present at the convocations both on September 14 and November 20.

I am aware that these dates will be upon us soon and that the locations are not ideal for everyone. Scheduling and availability of appropriate accommodations were key issues.

Thanks for your understanding. Coming together will give us strength, for when we gather in His name, He is present among us, and with us, and for us.

Please join me in praying for these days, for each priest of the Archdiocese of Boston, and for the presbyterate as a whole.

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Very Reverend Richard M. Erikson, Ph.D., V.G.
Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia
