May 11, 2007 - Archdiocese of Boston Statement Concerning the Grave of James and Delia Keavy

In keeping with the wishes of the DiMarco and Keavy families, the Archdiocese today reopened the grave of James and Delia Keavy. Today's findings confirm nothing inappropriate has occurred. When cemetery workers opened the grave they discovered a good deal of water, which was expected. Mr. Keavy's remains and casket were found and removed.

The remains of Mrs. Keavy, who was buried in 1977, and a considerable portion of her casket were found and removed. In both cases the remains were placed in new caskets, interred in a double chamber lawn crypt and placed in the adjacent grave within the Keavy lot. As had been explained to the DiMarco family in advance, today's findings were in keeping with cemetery official's expectations given the passage of time and the effects of natural elements.

The Archdiocese took these unprecedented steps out of respect for the DiMarco and Keavy families and we hope that this brings some sense of closure for them.

We are extremely disappointed in Fox 25 Boston's decision to continue to report a story based on unfounded claims of a disgruntled former employee and the resulting insensitivity to the families with loved ones buried in our Catholic cemeteries.
