February 23, 2007 - Archdiocese of Boston Announces the Dismissal of George J. Rosenkranz from the Clerical State

(Boston, Massachusetts) February 23, 2007… The Archdiocese of Boston today announced that George J. Rosenkranz has been dismissed from the clerical state. Mr. Rosenkranz has been restricted from any public ministry since 1989, due to allegations of sexual abuse of minors. With this decision by the Holy See, he has ceased to receive any financial support from the Archdiocese and may no longer function as a priest, with the exception of offering absolution to the dying.

"I recognize that today’s announcement may serve as a deep source of pain for those who have been sexually abused by members of the clergy," stated Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley. "I again apologize for the suffering endured as a result of these tragic violations of innocence and trust. For any individual in need of assistance during this difficult time, the Archdiocese’s Office of Pastoral Support and Outreach stands ready to provide counseling and pastoral care."
