January 18, 2007 - Our Lady of Grace School In Chelsea To Close June 2007January 18, 2007 - Chelsea, MA--Our Lady of Grace Parish, Chelsea, today announced that its elementary school would close at the end of the school year, June 2007. The decline in enrollment at the school over the past decade, with the projection of 145-175 students for the next academic year, and its accompanying financial burden has made it necessary to close at the end of this school year. The Catholic Schools Office for the Archdiocese is working to insure that families that wish to continue the education of their children in a Catholic school will be able to do so. Other Catholic schools in the area have opened their doors to welcome students from Our Lady of Grace. Faculty affected by the closing will be placed on a priority list for openings in other Catholic schools for September 2007. Sustaining a strong long-term future for the availability of Catholic education in the Metro North area requires the refocusing and management of resources so that quality academic and faith formation programs can remain an option for parents. Our Lady of Grace School has provided faith-based education to generations of students and parishioners. Established in 1929, the school has a rich legacy of service to its parishioners and its neighborhood communities. Every possible effort was made to continue that tradition, but changing demographics and finances have regrettably and sadly prevented that from happening. |
