April 13, 2006 - Statement of the Archdiocese of Boston Regarding the Indictment of Fr. Gerard McMahon
(Brighton, MA), April 13, 2006... The Archdiocese of Boston has just learned that an indictment of Fr. Gerard McMahon was handed down by a Norfolk County Grand Jury. The Archdiocese was informed by the district attorney of Norfolk County that they were investigating charges that Fr. McMahon had sexually abused a minor. We understand that the charges relate to alleged conduct which occurred 35 to 40 years ago.
The Archdiocese cooperated fully with the District Attorney's investigation. He has been restricted from the exercise of any public ministry while this matter is being investigated. Fr. McMahon, though a priest of the Archdiocese of Boston, resides in Florida. He was last assigned in the Boston Archdiocese in 1970 and served in the military for twenty years before retiring.
