October 14, 2005 - Kevin Shea Joins Archdiocese Communications Team(Brighton, MA) October 14, 2005… The Archdiocese of Boston announced today that Kevin Shea, a veteran communications and public relations professional, has been appointed Media Relations Director for the Archdiocese. A graduate of Holy Cross and Milton Academy, Shea will serve as a spokesman and key media relations professional in the Office of Communications. He will work with the Secretary for Communications Terrence C. Donilon in managing the internal and external communications activities for the Archdiocese. Archbishop Sean O’Malley said, “Kevin's experience in implementing many successful communications initiatives for the Boston Red Sox will be of great help to the Archdiocese. His reputation among colleagues in the media and participation in the life of the wider community recommend him for this important role. We welcome Kevin and look forward to his contributions to the work of the Church.” “Kevin Shea is an outstanding addition to the Archbishop’s staff,” said Donilon. “He is an exceptional individual who will add energy, experience, and a fresh perspective to our efforts to better serve the Catholic community in Boston. We are fortunate to be able to have him join our team.” Shea said, “ I look forward to serving Archbishop O’Malley and the Archdiocese of Boston. The Church has been an important part of my life and I welcome the opportunity to assist the Church. I am honored to have the chance to contribute to the Archbishop’s ministry as he seeks to strengthen the Church of Boston.” Shea is the former Director of Media Relations/Communications for the Boston Red Sox (1990-2004). In his lead role with the Red Sox, he worked closely on a daily basis with members of the local, national and international print and electronic media. Shea was responsible for managing and overseeing the entire internal and external communications effort for the Red Sox including serving as spokesman and interacting daily with ownership, senior management, athletes, agents, sponsors, fans and other Red Sox constituents. He also played an instrumental role in the organization’s community relations and marketing initiatives. Most recently, Shea served as a strategic communications consultant. Kevin and his wife Marlene live in Milton, Massachusetts. They are parishioners of St. Elizabeth’s Parish in Milton. In his spare time he serves as an ice hockey official for the Eastern College Athletic Conference, Hockey East and the NCAA. The Archdiocese of Boston Communications Office is primarily funded by the Catholic Foundation who over the course of the past year has raised the funds to operate the office. |
