July 22, 2005 - Archbishop To Officiate At Rededication Of St. Patrick Church In Stoneham

(Brighton, Massachusetts) July 22, 2005 -- Archbishop Sean O> '> Malley will preside at the Mass and rededication ceremonies for St. Patrick Church in Stoneham, Massachusetts this Saturday, July 23rd. Mass will take place at 4:00 P.M.

The planning process for St. Patrick's began more than six years ago with the establishment of an 18-member Building Committee to address the need for a Parish Center. In their meetings the Building Committee determined that not only could they address the need to construct a Parish Center, but that they could accomplish this in addition to a Church expansion.

With more than 15,000 parishioners, this vibrant parish, originally dedicated on November 4, 1888 by Boston's 4th Bishop and 1st Archbishop John J. Williams, began to plan for a much larger project that held its groundbreaking on November 2, 2003 and which culminates on Saturday, July 23, 2005 with its rededication. The expanded Church is fully air-conditioned, complete with an elevator and an increased capacity from 550 to 900.

Angelo Petrozzelli's brilliant design has created a new section of St. Patrick Church that blends perfectly with the victorian, wood gothic church of Charles Keeley from 1888.
