June 7, 2005 - Archdiocese of Boston Announces that Reverend
Monsignor Robert Fichtner will be Returned to Public Ministry
(Brighton, Massachusetts) June 7, 2005…The Archdiocese of Boston
today announced that the Reverend Monsignor Robert Fichtner will be able
to exercise public ministry.
In 2003, Monsignor Fichtner was placed on administrative leave following
the receipt of a single complaint of sexual abuse of a minor more than
twenty years ago. After careful review of the information available regarding
the complaint, the Review Board determined that the allegation was unsubstantiated.
In light of this finding, Archbishop O'Malley has lifted all restrictions
on Monsignor Fichtner's exercise of public ministry.
The Archbishop reiterates his concern for all persons impacted by the
tragedy of sexual abuse, as well as his firm intention to resolve cases
of this type as expeditiously as possible, in a manner that is just for
all parties concerned.
