June 5, 2005 - The Archdiocese of Boston Announces That The Reverend Edward Sherry Will Return To Active Ministry

The Archdiocese of Boston announces that the Reverend Edward F. Sherry will return to active ministry in his capacity as Pastor of Church of the Nativity Parish in Merrimac.

In 2003, Father Sherry was placed on administrative leave following the filing of a lawsuit in which he was accused of sexual abuse of a minor nearly thirty years previously. Unable to substantiate this claim after a careful review of the information available, the Review Board recently recommended that all restrictions be lifted on Father Sherry's exercise of public ministry.

In welcoming Father Sherry back to Church of the Nativity, the Archbishop also wishes to extend his sincere gratitude to Father William Kremmell, who has served the parish as Administrator for the past two years.

The Archbishop reiterates his concern for all persons impacted by the tragedy of sexual abuse, as well as his firm intention to resolve cases of this type as expeditiously as possible, in a manner that is just for all parties concerned.
