June 2, 2005 - Statement on the historic
significance of many of its worship sites as it relates to the reconfiguration
Boston, Massachusetts, June 2, 2005 - The Archdiocese
of Boston today made the following statement regarding the process of
reconfiguration:
“The Archdiocese of Boston is engaged in a challenging but necessary
process of reconfiguration in an effort to better meet the needs of the
Catholic community now and in the future. A significant amount of planning
and work has gone into the ongoing disposition of Church property with
the clear understanding that both the needs of the Archdiocese and the
surrounding communities must be balanced.
The Archdiocese appreciates the need to respect the historic significance
of its many worship sites. In fact, it takes into account a variety of
factors in an effort to evaluate proposals for re-use. All proposals are
viewed on a qualitative basis including the historic nature of the structures.”
