May 19, 2005 - Archbishop O’Malley To Ordain Eight Priests

(Boston, MA) May 19, 2005… Archbishop Sean O’Malley will ordain eight men to the priesthood this Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, 1400 Washington Street, Boston.  The ordination Mass begins at 9:00 A.M.

Archbishop Sean said, “We welcome into the priesthood eight gifted and deeply devoted brothers in Christ.  We pray for them as they go forth to spread the good news of the Lord with the love and support of their fellow priests and all the people of the Archdiocese of Boston” 

Boston Catholic Television (BCTV) will broadcast the entire Mass live from the Cathedral beginning at 9:00 A.M.  Newly appointed BCTV Director Fr. Following are the candidates for ordination. The Pilot, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Boston, will feature profiles of all the candidates in the Friday, May 20th issue. 

Robert J. Cullen is the son of Muriel (Fein) Cullen and the late Lawrence Cullen. A son of St. Bernadette Parish in Randolph he has been serving his deacon year at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Hanson. Father Cullen will celebrate his First Mass at St. Bernadette church on May 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Father Cullen is an alumnus of Blessed John XXIII National Seminary, Weston.

Joseph J. D’Onofrio, from St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Cohasset, is the son of Paul and Catherine (Diliberto) D’Onofrio. He completed his seminary studies at St. John Seminary and served his diaconate assignment at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Chelsea. Father D’Onforio will celebrate his First Mass at his home parish on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.

Benjamin Thuan Letran, who served his diaconate assignment at Holy Name Parish in Boston’s West Roxbury section, will celebrate his First Mass at that church on May 21, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. He is the son of Luong V. Le and Sahn T. Tran and completed formation at St. John Seminary.

Jason Makos, who has been a student at the Pontifical North American College at Rome, is the son of Stephen and Jean (Parkinson) Makos. A native of Holy Ghost Parish, Whitman, Father Makos will celebrate his First Mass there on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. During this past summer, he served a deacon internship at St. Edith Stein Parish in Brockton.

David S. Marcham, an alumnus of St. John Seminary and a Quincy native from Sacred Heart Parish, has been serving his deacon internship at St. Ann Parish in Boston’s Neponset section, just over the bridge from North Quincy. He is one of two sons of David and Elizabeth (Shay) Marcham and he will celebrate his First Mass at Sacred Heart church, North Quincy on May 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m.

Robert A. Poitras, who has been a student at the Pontifical North American College at Rome, is the son of Robert Poitras and the late Loretta (Baillargeon) Poitras of St. Patrick Parish in Lowell. His brother is Father Stephen Poitras and priest of the archdiocese serving as parochial vicar at St. Michael, Hudson. During the summer Father Poitras served as deacon at St. Patrick Parish in Watertown. He will celebrate his First Mass at St. Patrick in Lowell on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.

Thomas S. Rafferty, an alumnus of Blessed John XXIII National Seminary and the son of James and Ellen (Clarke) Rafferty, served his diaconate year at St. Paul Parish in Hingham. He will celebrate his First Mass on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 12:00 Noon at his home parish, St. Peter, Cambridge.

David A. Shoemaker is a native of Idaho and a son of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Mountain Home, Idaho; he completed his seminary studies at St. John Seminary and served his diaconate assignment at Sacred Heart, North Quincy. A son of Shigeki and Debra (Kernell) Shoemaker he will celebrate his First Mass at Sacred Heart on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 10:30 a.m.
