March 25, 2005 - Archdiocese of Boston Announces Special Easter
Sunday Liturgy in Squantum section of Quincy
(Boston, Massachusetts) March 25, 2005…The Archdiocese of Boston today
announced that Archbishop Sean P. O’Malley, in consultation with Reverend
John O’Brien, Vicar Forane for Quincy, has made provisions for a priest
of the Archdiocese, Reverend Michael Drea, parochial vicar at St. Ann Parish
in Wollaston to celebrate Easter Sunday Mass for the community of the former
Star of the Sea Parish. The special Easter Liturgy will be held in the auditorium
of Squantum Elementary School on Sunday morning at 11:30. In connection with
this announcement, the Friends of Star of the Sea Committee has cancelled plans
for the celebration of an Easter Sunday liturgy at Squantum’s First Parish
Church. The Archbishop will also ask representatives of the Meade-Eisner Reconfiguration
Review Committee to meet with representatives of Friends of Star of the Sea
Committee as they have with a number of other archdiocesan parish communities
affected by reconfiguration activity.
Archbishop Sean expressed his gratitude to the Star of the Sea Committee for
their cooperation and assistance. Mr. Sean Glennon, co-chair of Friends of
the Star of the Sea Committee commented, “In light of our love and respect
for the Church and our desire to experience unity as Catholics, we were pleased
to learn of the Archbishop’s offer to provide for this Mass.” Squantum
Elementary School is located at 50 Huckins Avenue in the Squantum area of Quincy.
