January 5, 2005 - Archdiocese of Boston to Market 4 Additional Parish Properties in 90-day Process(Boston, Massachusetts) January 5, 2005…The Archdiocese of Boston today announced it will begin soliciting offers for the sale of four properties associated with its reconfiguration plan. These four properties join sixteen previously announced properties that have been soliciting offers since November 15, 2004. Offers, solicited over a 90-day period, will be evaluated at the conclusion of that process. At the conclusion of the process the Archdiocesan Real Estate office and the Real Estate Advisory committee will review the offers. They will make their recommendations to the Chancellor. The Chancellor will review the financial terms. He will then forward his recommendations to the Vicar General, who in turn will review the recommendations in light of other considerations, including social concerns. The Vicar General will then forward his recommendations to the Archbishop concerning the received offers. If the Archbishop is inclined to accept the offers, the required permissions will be sought from the College of Consultors, the Finance Council and, where needed, from the Holy See. “Each decision will be based on many factors including proposed property used, price and contingencies,” stated David W. Smith, Chancellor. “It is our hope to maximize the financial consideration consistent with the needs of the communities we serve. Only reconfiguration expenses and Finance Council recommended fiscal year 2005 budget items will be funded from property sale proceeds pending the completion of a financial strategic planning process initiated by Archbishop Sean with assistance from the Archdiocesan Finance Council.” The Chancellor will report on these expenditures monthly in the Pilot. The Archbishop also has indicated his intention to expand the Finance Council’s membership to ensure it has the breadth of expertise to contribute substantively to the development of this strategic financial plan on a timely basis. Details regarding these properties and the corresponding listing brokers follow:
* The square footage included in the building area is the total of all buildings including basement space. The reconfiguration of parishes in the Archdiocese of Boston began in January of 2004, when there were 357 parishes divided into five regions. Since that time, 47 parishes have closed and other parish communities have welcomed those parishioners. When reconfiguration is completed, it is estimated that 83 parishes and 67 churches will have been closed, eight new parishes will have been created and eight churches will remain open as worship sites. This activity will result in 283 parishes serving the cities and towns that comprise the Archdiocese of Boston. |
