The following statement was released to the media this evening regarding the Cardinal's Commission for the Protection of Children. Statement of Donna M. Morrissey, Spokeswoman, Archdiocese of Boston May 17, 2002His Eminence Bernard Cardinal Law met with the members of the Cardinal's Commission for the Protection of Children today at Regis College in Weston and accepted for consideration a draft of their preliminary report and policy review. Cardinal Law reacted favorably to the eight recommendations that the Commission brought forth and he applauded their tireless work. Cardinal Law looks forward to sharing the recommendations of the Commission with his brother Bishops at the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops meeting in Dallas in June. Cardinal Law is grateful for the dedication and commitment that the members of the commission have shown and the time they have invested in contributing to a systematic reform of policies intended to protect children. The Cardinal's Commission for the Protection of Children underscores the value and significance of involvement by laity in serving the mission of the Church. |
