Statement of His Eminence Cardinal Law on Reverend Monsignor Peter Conley May 14, 2002

Statement of His Eminence Cardinal Law on Reverend Monsignor Peter Conley May 14, 2002

For the past eleven years Monsignor Peter Conley has served the Archdiocese as editor and executive editor of The Pilot. During his tenure The Pilot has greatly benefited from his intelligence, his wit, and his skills as a gifted writer. His commitment to ecumenism, interreligious affairs, and social justice is well known. He has fulfilled well the hope he expressed when assuming his role as editor, he has indeed been "an instrument in the middle of the public dialogue on issues confronting everyone."

Because he is first a priest, Monsignor Conley had expressed for some time his desire to concentrate on his new duties as pastor of St. Jude Parish in Norfolk, as well as his many responsibilities as vicar of the Norwood region.

I am particularly grateful to Monsignor Conley for his willingness to have continued with The Pilot to provide his successor assistance during the transition.

Monsignor Conley's long commitment to the media, first as Director of Communications of the Archdiocese and then as editor of The Pilot leave a great legacy. While The Pilot loses a great writer, his parishioners and brother priests in his Vicariate will certainly reap the benefits of this action.
