Statement of Donna M. Morrissey, Spokeswoman, Archdiocese of
Boston May 2, 2002
Our hope is that the arrest of retired priest Paul Shanley on charges
of the sexual abuse of a child will bring some level of relief and
contribute to the healing of those who have been sexually abused
as children and teenagers, their families, and all who suffer during
this horrific time. The Archdiocese of Boston will continue to cooperate
with civil authorities in the investigation of all such cases.
We continue to extend our prayers and support to all people who
have suffered sexual abuse, their families and members of the community
who are struggling during this difficult and disturbing time. The
Healing and Assistance Ministry Office of the Archdiocese of Boston
is ready to be of service to all those who bear the burden of sexual
abuse of children.
