The Archdiocese of Boston has learned that Reverend Kelvin E. Iguabita
has been arrested by the Haverhill Police Department and charged with
two counts of rape of a child and one count of assault with intent to
rape. The Archdiocese of Boston will cooperate fully with the authorities
as this investigation continues.
Recently, the Archdiocese of Boston learned of the allegations after
being contacted by a mandated reporter working with the alleged victim.
In accordance with our sexual misconduct policy Father Iguabita will not
be given any assignment in the Archdiocese of Boston pending the outcome
of the criminal charges and formal review and action under our policy.
The Archdiocese of Boston will also notify the Holy See regarding these
allegations.
At the time of his arrest Father Iguabita did not have an assignment
in the Archdiocese of Boston. Before taking a leave of absence on July
18, 2001, Father Iguabita was briefly assigned to the Metropolitan Tribunal
of Boston and previously was Parochial Vicar at All Saints Parish in Haverhill,
Massachusetts from June 1, 1999 to June 5, 2001. Father Iguabita, a native
of Columbia, was ordained in Boston on May 15, 1999.
The Archdiocese of Boston will provide any necessary pastoral support
to All Saints Parish and School communities in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Anyone who has additional information regarding allegations of misconduct
with a minor in regards to Father Iguabita is urged to immediately contact
