May 26, 2003 - Correction to May 23, 2003 AP report that St. John seminary
would have
"no first year students" in September.
On Friday, May 23, 2003, the Associated Press erroneously reported
that “no first year students” were scheduled to enter St.
John’s Seminary, Brighton in the fall. The source quoted was a
report on New England Cable News (NECN). NECN had in fact contacted Fr.
Christopher Coyne, spokesman for the archdiocese and a member of the
faculty of St. John’s concerning the number of students entering
in the fall. Fr. Coyne told NECN that while there are a number of men
entering St. John’s Seminary in the fall, surprisingly at, this
time, none of them are being placed in the first-year Pre-Theology class.
This is because they already have some philosophy and theology in their
backgrounds and so can move forward into the program. At this time, it
appears that after all the admissions work is finished there may be some
students in the first-year program. There is simply none now.
In addition, to students studying for a post-graduate degree at St.
John’s Seminary, there are already four incoming Boston freshmen
who will begin their studies for an undergraduate degree at a seminary
college in Philadelphia in the fall.
