October 23, 2006 - Message from Cardinal O'Malley for the End of Ramadan. My dear friends in the Muslim Community, Allow me to take this opportunity to wish you, “Happy Eid” as you conclude the month of Ramadan this year. May your days of prayer, reflection, fasting, and almsgiving help you to follow the path of the One God more closely. Enclosed with this letter please find the Holy See’s recent “Message for the End of Ramadan”, sent to all the Muslims of the world. It is good to know that the positive relationship between the members of the Islamic Council of New England and the Archdiocese of Boston remains strong. I was grateful for the opportunity to have hosted a meeting in June with several leaders from the Islamic Council and to have participated in a candid and respectful exchange of concerns at our interreligious leaders’ meeting on September 11. The statement that came out of that meeting, “People of Faith Share These Values,” serves as an example of the opportunity for dialogue that acknowledges our differences but affirms the desire to work together for the common good. We are all blessed by the commitment to continue building our relationship. May our collaboration benefit our faith communities and society at large as together we seek the path justice and peace. As you celebrate Eid al-Fitr this year, may God’s blessings be with you all. Sincerely, Cardinal Sean O’Malley
