Review Board The Review Board is a confidential consultative body of nine (9) persons that advises the Archbishop in the assessment of complaints of child abuse by a cleric and in his determination of the suitability of an accused cleric for ministry. The Board may offer advice on all aspects of these cases, whether retrospectively or prospectively, and is responsible for the review every two years of the Policies and Procedures for the Protection of Children. The Archbishop appoints each member of the Review Board for a term of five (5) years, which can be renewed. Each member is to be of outstanding integrity and good judgment in full communion with the Church. The majority of the review board members will be lay persons who are not in the employ of the Archdiocese. At least one member will be someone who was sexually abused as a child or who is a family member of someone who was abused as a child. One member will be a priest who is an experienced and respected pastor of the Archdiocese (cf. USCCB, Essential Norms §5). The members of the Review Board will select their own chairperson by majority vote. The Archbishop will make the names of the members of the Review Board known publicly. The Archbishop will convene the meetings of the Review Board. A quorum is reached when at least five (5) members are present. The meetings will be conducted in a manner that protects the reputations and good names of all persons involved. The Archbishop must seek the counsel of the Review Board prior to concluding the preliminary investigation of a complaint of child abuse by a cleric (cf. Code of Canon Law, canon 127 §1).” Members of the Review Board, term beginning July 1, 2003
